Eastern Screech-Owl

Eastern Screech-Owls in Ontario come in two distinct color morphs: grey and rufous (red). In my area, the red ones are definitely much rarer.
Finding one is always a masterclass in patience and observation. Their intricate feather patterns blend so perfectly with the bark of old tree cavities that they can be sitting right in front of you, completely invisible. Spotting a red morph tucked inside a hollow trunk on a quiet afternoon feels like uncovering a hidden forest gem.
