Franklin’s Grouse with family

You might mistake this for a black backyard chicken at first glance, but it’s actually one of the rarest species I’ve logged on iNaturalist. Meet the Franklin’s Grouse—a distinct western subspecies found out in the Canadian Rockies. I managed to photograph this beauty during a trip out west. I spotted the male first, and shortly after, a female and juvenile showed up nearby. Absolute privilege to observe and capture an entire family out on the trail!
